If you are a disabled Australian resident, you may be eligible for individualised supports under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). To apply, you must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident between the ages of seven and 64.
You must also be living with a significant permanent disability that has an impact on various aspects of your life. If you want to apply for NDIS funding, there is a wealth of information available, including whether you are eligible.
Lists of disabilities supported by the NDIS, such as List A and List B, are available on the NDIS website. However, these are only suggestions. Your eligibility will be determined based on your individual circumstances, not the label assigned to your disability.

To apply for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), you will need to provide information about your disability and the kinds of supports you need. You can get this information from doctors, specialists, allied health workers and disability support services.
The application process is likely to be long and involved. You’ll need to think about what services or budgets to apply for in your NDIS plan.

No. If you’re over 65, you can’t access the NDIS – but that doesn’t mean you won’t receive support. If you’re aged 65 or over and are currently receiving disability supports, you’ll continue to receive the same level of support as before, just not through the NDIS.
You do! Your NDIS plan will tell you how much funding you will receive for each support, but it is up to you to manage the funds. You can manage your funds yourself or appoint the NDIS, a registered provider, or someone else you trust to do so on your behalf. You will always have control over how, when, and where your supports are provided under the NDIS.
If your needs are not currently being met, the NDIS may provide you with additional assistance if it is deemed reasonable and necessary. This is why, before your first NDIS meeting, you should spend some time thinking about your needs and where your life could be improved.
The focus of the NDIS is not on the amount of money you receive, but on ensuring you receive the supports you need to achieve your goals.
If your circumstances change, yes. If something occurs that affects the supports you require, simply notify the NDIS or your support provider, and they will work with you to revise your plan. Every 12 months, your NDIS plan is also reviewed. This allows you to assess your progress towards achieving your goals and helps you set new goals for the coming year, which may result in a change in your support requirements.
